Artists to Look Forward to in 2012: Fanfarlo

The glutinous hangover of the holidays had just passed with the help of few effervescent tablets, and already there is a plenitude of singles that promise a mighty good album. In the next few weeks, I will introduce a few CDs that I am looking forward to in the coming year.

With the two new singles released in 2011, "Deconstruction" and "Replicate", the band is once again writing intriguing music. Except unlike their 2009 Reservoir debut, the lyrics are dark, broody almost, and the arrangement is more organ and less piano. This new direction in song-writing at times evokes a Funeral/Neon Bible contrast. Now to avoid any misunderstanding, I want to make it clear that my allusion to a certain Grammy-winning Montreal band is not an attempt to take away anything from the originality of the group, but rather a compliment to Fanfarlo, and a prediction that if everything goes right, this will be an album to watch for in 2012.
